Abstract

India has been in the throes of a lively debate on food security. There have

been calls for a 'second green revolution' in the country. However, there is a

need to take a look at the food security policies pursued so far to draw

appropriate lessons from their implementation. An examination of these

policies, including the 'First Green Revolution' shows that these policies

themselves have contributed in no small measure towards undermining the

food security of the country. There is a need to learn from this experience

rather than blindly extending them to other parts of the country.
